Thank you for completing this survey to help The Appalachian Staple Foods Collaborative assess what is needed to build a regional staple seed food system in Appalachian communities. Staple seed crops comprise 70% of our calories but becuase those crops are from by distant sources and controlled by multinational interests, we must work together to rebuild regional systems. A SE Ohio staple food system can build our regional economy by developing the farming and processing needed to get these crops from the field to the table. The result: sustainable agriculture, food storage, mills, packaging, breads, cereals, power bars, fresh tortillas, crackers, canned beans, cooking oil, and shelled nuts, seed, and nut butters, food pantries stocked with locally produced food, and work force development. All of which means new business, more local money, and food security. If you have any questions, please call Michelle at 740-797-4399 or Rose at 740-767-4938 (Rural Action).
