Hello, my name is Jodie Geddes. I'm the project lead for the Truth-telling, Racial Healing, and Reparations Mapping Initiative at Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth (RJOY). In February 2016 a small group of people doing this work around the country gathered in Richmond, Virginia to engage in critical conversations centered on transforming the United States' history and legacy of slavery. In deep conversation we acknowledged the expanding landscape of truth telling happening from Montgomery (Equal Justice Initiative), to Ferguson (Truth-Telling Project) to Boston (The Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project). While these organizations and their leaders are well known and do great work, there are many other efforts underway, though less visible. Moves to do away with Confederate memorials, symbols and names from public places have garnered international headlines and are taking the national conversation telling the truth about our history to new levels. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. In partnership with June Holley of Network Weavers, we are launching a survey which will allow us to document and render more visible the full range of Truth-Telling, Racial Healing, Reparations, and Memorialization initiatives, and other related efforts underway throughout the United States today. The electronic maps generated will geographically locate and allow us to link and virtually network such efforts. Networking will hopefully add to the momentum, laying the groundwork for a national convening and ultimately a Truth and Reconciliation process to transform historical harms against African Americans. People who take the survey will be invited to a virtual session to analyze the maps. We hope you will also be interested in exploring the possibility of a national convening as a next step.

This survey must be completed by October 20, 2018
